The School Division is committed to providing educational environments that are free of discrimination, harassment, and bullying. Students, staff, parents/legal guardians who have concerns about discrimination, harassment, or bullying should contact the school administration at their school. Promptly reporting concerns will allow the school to take appropriate actions to investigate and resolve issues. School Board Policy 5-7 addresses non-discrimination and anti-harassment, Policy 5-44 addresses sexual harassment and discrimination based on sex or gender. Policy 5-36 and its supporting regulations address other forms of harassment.
Virginia Beach City Public Schools does not discriminate on the basis of sex in its education program and activities, as required by Title IX. Such requirement to not discriminate extends to admission and employment. As required by Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Virginia Beach City Public Schools prohibits all unlawful discrimination, harassment and retaliation on the basis of sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation in any employment decision, admissions determination, education program or educational activity. Effective August 14, 2020, pursuant to federal regulations implementing Title IX, any complaint involving “sexual harassment” as defined by those federal regulations that occurs in a Virginia Beach City Public Schools education program or activity against a person in the United States shall be addressed pursuant to the Virginia Beach City Public Schools Title IX Grievance Process, as outlined in the Administrative Guidelines, available below.
